Pop culture and soft power officially shook hands at the Palais des Congrès de Paris on Wednesday night, June 17, 2026, as the highly anticipated European debut of the legendary music showcase Inkigayo unfolded. Framed under the grand umbrella of the inter-ministerial “2026 K-EXPO FRANCE,” the evening was not just a treat for 4,000 pan-European music fans, but a high-level diplomatic milestone celebrating the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations between South Korea and France.

The cross-border significance of the evening was established before a single note was played. In an official opening address, H.E. Mr. CHAE Hwi-young, the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Korea, stood alongside a representative sent on behalf of the French Minister of Culture. Minister CHAE, drawing directly on his professional roots as a former journalist, delivered an inspiring speech emphasizing how modern media platforms and shared artistic expression act as vital bridges for international cooperation. This institutional introduction set a prestigious, historic tone for a night that chronologically showcased the global evolution of the Hallyu wave..

The musical curation began with a masterclass in modern K-hip-hop from 82MAJOR. The rising group quickly demonstrated why they have already penetrated the strict US Billboard charts, delivering incredibly complex rap flows and supreme stage confidence with standout tracking anthems like “First Class” and “Choke”. Transitioning seamlessly from fierce bars to brilliant vocal pop, the mega-rookie girl group Hearts2Hearts claimed the stage next. Boasting an unmatched debut era with nine Rookie-of-the-Year trophies and parallel global chart listings, their live versions of “Heartbeat” and “Love Switch” were characterized by a staggering level of vocal clarity and mechanical choreographic precision.

In a brilliant, unscripted subversion of standard arena staging, the veteran members of MONSTA X briefly hijacked the venue by appearing directly in the spectator stands. Engaging in an impromptu Random Play Dance Challenge across four of their iconic releases, the members interacted seamlessly with the surrounding fans, proving that modern pop thrives on closing the gap between the artist and the audience.

The concert’s special diplomatic segment highlighted deep bilateral exchange through unexpected artistic risks. Acoustic singer-songwriter Stella Jang delivered an intimate set that felt like a love letter to the Champs-Élysées, effortlessly handling themes of L’amour, local Parisian baguettes, and French daily subculture. Despite having spent over a decade living and studying in France, this very night marked a historic, emotional first for her career: she performed live in French on French soil.

Global sub-unit NCT WISH followed, driving up the pop energy with their optimistic anthems “WISH” and “Sailing”. Crucially, the group utilized their mid-set speaking slot (Ment) to address the audience with remarkable eloquence, expressing deep appreciation for the enduring cultural bonds and growing modern ties connecting South Korea and France.

Maintaining this global community sentiment, the main screens feature specialized video messages from various absent K-pop ensembles, who sent personalized memories and emotional greetings directly to their local European fanbases.

The evening closed with the definitive heavyweights of the industry. MONSTA X officially assumed control of the main stage, unleashing the raw, intensely physical performance power that made them a staple of third-generation K-pop. Their medley of “Love Killa”, “DRAMARAMA”, “Shoot Out”, and “GAMBLER” served as a masterclass in live stamina, leaning into a deep connection forged over years of selling out European tours.

Before transitioning into the ultimate headline act, the crowd was treated to an unexpected live bonus. Following the video greetings from the other Korean artists shown on the screen, the three rising groups—82MAJOR, Hearts2Hearts, and NCT WISH—returned to the stage. Each band performed another song completely live, delivering a powerful encore to thank their European fanbase face-to-face.

Right after their performances, the visual screens transitioned into a beautifully produced documentary tracking Taemin’s extensive history with the city of Paris, archiving his classic fashion week appearances and enduring artistic romance with the capital.

The ultimate finale belonged to the icon himself: TAEMIN. The SHINee member and definitive “Idol’s Idol” delivered a breathtaking solo showcase. Blending high art with pristine physical control during his performances of “Move”, “Criminal”, and the highly sensual “Guilty”, Taemin’s fluid choreography provided the perfect, sophisticated climax to a historic event. As showcased in the official visual layouts of the venue the 2026 K-EXPO beautifully underscored how modern entertainment has fully matured into an independent, global economic and cultural bridge.
