INAUGURAL IRONMAN 70.3 VENICE-JESOLO & IRONMAN 70.3 IRELAND, CORK SELL OUT AMONG 13 OTHER EVENTS IN EUROPE

It’s a remarkable feat in remarkable times: General registration for the inaugural editions of IRONMAN® 70.3® Venice-Jesolo (Italy) on May 2, 2021 and IRONMAN 70.3 Ireland, Cork on August 14, 2021 is now sold out. Both races were announced earlier this year. IRONMAN 70.3 Ireland, Cork was added to the existing IRONMAN Ireland, Cork, creating a unique triathlon festival weekend at the Emerald Isle’s southern tip.

Also, the newly added IRONMAN Mallorca  opened registration yesterday at 2 pm CET and expected to generate massive athlete interest.

The success of two of the latest additions to The IRONMAN Group’s series in Europe, the Middle East and Africa comes among a number of recent sellouts across 10 different European countries for races ranging from May to September 2021. The United Kingdom tops the country list with more than 15,000 athletes, followed by Germany with more than 10,000 athletes. In addition, more than 33,000 athletes will be racing in their first-ever IRONMAN or IRONMAN 70.3 event in 2021.

“It goes without question that this has been a difficult year for everyone in the industry and the sport of triathlon. We can’t thank our athletes enough for their commitment to our races and their belief, that during the course of 2021 we will all come back stronger from these unprecedented times,” said Stefan Petschnig, Managing Director for The IRONMAN Group in Europe, Middle East and Africa.

New registrations picked up sharply over the past weeks as The IRONMAN Group delivered successful and safe events at IRONMAN 70.3 Les Sables d’Olonne-Vendée (France), IRONMAN Tallinn and IRONMAN 70.3 Tallinn (Estonia) and at IRONMAN 70.3 Gdynia (Poland) as well as the pro athlete-only Hamburg Wasser World Triathlon Series event in Hamburg, Germany. This past weekend, The IRONMAN Group successfully added IRONMAN 70.3 Turkey to the list of races held in 2021.

This summer, The IRONMAN Group introduced the “Safe Return To Racing” concept to outline best practices for its open-air mass-participation sports events. More details can be found at: www.ironman.com/return-guidelines

“This clearly shows that the athletes trust our Safe Return to Racing concept, and we are constantly working on refining it to provide everyone involved with a safe and enjoyable racing experience,” added Thomas Veje Olsen, Vice President Operations for The IRONMAN Group in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
