Will students don multimedia glasses and learn everything in 3D in the future? In Hall 4.2 – the Book Fair’s hall for education, science and specialist information – visitors can witness this experiment first-hand in the Classroom of the Future. During the Book Fair, entire classes will have lessons in the cyber classroom – in 3D! Those interested in finding out more can learn everything about this technology for the classroom in lectures and discussions at the event “Innovative Teaching and Learning – New technologies in the classroom” in Room Europa (4.0) on the Wednesday of the Book Fair. The Forum Education, on the other hand, will look at the role of cyberspace in war. TV correspondent Ulrich Tilgner will speak about US drones and cyber warfare in the Middle East (Saturday, 10:45 a.m. – 11:45 a.m.). Astrophysicist Ben Moore will also explain the history of the universe on the Thursday of the fair as he reads from “Elefanten im All” (Elephants in Space) (5:45 p.m. – 6:15 p.m.). Finally, on the Friday of the Book Fair, the all-day education conference “Transitions: From the nursery to career choices” will be held in Hall 4.2 (9:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.).
Educational media that have proven particularly successful will be discussed and even awarded prizes at the Book Fair. On the Thursday of the fair, for example, the shortlist of the Deutscher Wirtschaftsbuchpreis – an award for the top titles in economics – will be discussed in expert roundtables (12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m., Forum Education) under the motto “10 books, 10 opinions!” The best German children’s software will be awarded the Tommi 2012 here on the Friday of the Book Fair. On the Wednesday of the fair, the Best European Schoolbook Award 2012 will be presented to one of 18 European participants.
Literacy is the foundation upon which education is built. LitCam (Literacy Campaign) and the Frankfurt Book Fair have been striving for this since 2006. To this end, the international LitCam conference “Literacy and Active Citizenship” will be held on the Monday and Tuesday before the Book Fair. And on the Thursday of the fair, LitCam will celebrate Africa Day (Hall 3.1, L125) to highlight educational projects in the townships and African cuisine, along with digital strategies. All eyes will be on the ball at the weekend for LitCam’s “Football meets Culture“ project. On the Saturday of the Book Fair, for example, there will be a press conference from 12:15 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. with Peter Neururer on his book “Aus dem Leben eines Bundeligatrainers” (The Life of a Bundesliga Coach). Following that, Günter Netzer’s favourite sparring partner Gerhard Delling will read from his book “50 Jahre Bundesliga” (50 Years of the Bundesliga). Learn more at www.litcam.org
